Marquette: Fundraising Phone Call

The fundraising calls from Marquette University started up again.

Rather than being annoyed by the calls that no doubt would persist night after night, it was with great satisfaction that we picked up and informed Marquette that we would not be donating.

Why would we offer our financial support to an institution like Marquette?

Read: "Student Rejects Marquette Because of Politically Incorrect Intolerance."

Read the email sent to Professor John McAdams regarding a student's choice to reject Marquette because of its intolerance, and the accompanying analysis from McAdams.

McAdams writes:

Is Marquette worse than other institutions? That depends on the institution, but Marquette claims to provide an “academically rigorous, service oriented, and values oriented” education and to serve a “Catholic mission.” It is difficult to see how this can be so if the university seeks to silence disfavored views and to ostracize what are still orthodox Catholic positions.

No student should come to Marquette thinking that the institution is anything more than a standard, secular, politically correct generic university.
Let's be honest.

Marquette's "Catholic mission" is a crock.

Without a doubt, its alleged emphasis on values and service is not rooted in the Catholic faith anymore.

Under President Michael Lovell, Marquette has lost its way.

As McAdams says, "No student should come to Marquette thinking that the institution is anything more than a standard, secular, politically correct generic university."

Sadly, that's true.

Milwaukee and the surrounding community will be less as a result.

However, I do think it's important to remember the good that Marquette did.

Thousands of us are out here, "being the difference," not standard or secular or politically correct or generic.
